MADRID — As part of its strategic growth move into Spanish-language TV markets, French TV conglom Banijay Group announced Wednesday the launch in Spain of its celebrity news channel Non Stop People.
Airing beginning June 1 exclusively on giant telco Telefonica’s paybox Movistar TV, Non Stop People will land in Spain only 30 months after its debut in France, via TV platform Canalsat.
Non Stop People is the fruit of a joint venture between the Banijay Group and French prodco Mediatic System that has developed a round-the-clock, seven days a week formula, channeling the model of CNN and applying it 100% entertainment and celebrity content.
Non Stop People Spain, like its French version, will have an editorial team of 30 journalists and its own studio in central Madrid. In total, more than 60 people will work for the channel, which will produce all of its own content, Banijay said in a statement.
Vet Spanish TV exec and Banijay Spain prexy, José Manuel Lorenzo will oversee the channel, while journalist Antonio San José, a former information head at CNN Plus and Canal Plus, will led the editorial team.
“We have put in place a strong editorial team to attract the young Movistar TV audience. We believe the creativity and originality of our content will become the destination for Spain’s new generation looking for celebrity and entertainment news,” José Manuel Lorenzo said.
“I am certain that our new channel will quickly find its place in the market, and the next step in our development will be a move into Latin America in the near future,” he added.
According to Non Stop Group founder and prexy Hugues Dangy, “The possibilities that we are opening up for the Hispanic market are huge, and we intend to capitalize on the expertise of our Spanish teams to accelerate our global development.”
A powerful international content creator for TV and multimedia platforms, the Banijay Group, led by French entrepreneur Stephane Courbit’s LOV Group, operates in a dozen territories, engaged in strategic partnerships with local partners. In Spain, Banijay comprises TV outfits Cuarzo and DLO Producciones. Movistar TV is Spain’s pay TV market leader, with north of 1.9 million subscribers and a 35% market share.
